Invoking Shekinah: Acrylic on Canvas

Indwelling light

that lights the path.

I seek your presence today

with your golden hands of creation,

part the veils of my understanding.

Make the seeds of my mind

to flourish and bloom

planting trees in the restored

garden of Eden.

When can we go home?

Are the gates open even now?

You who grant us access to the

true paradise within through

choosing to alight in the
daughters and sons of this good green earth.

You who is for our ancestors and for us

a pillar of cloud by day

that we might see our way

through the wildnerness

within and in the world.

You who is for our ancestors and for us

a pillar of fire by night so that

we do not lose our way

or dwell in darkness for too long.

You are the domain in

which we receive the indwelling

spirit of the Most High

so that we might participate

in the Divine life.

When we had become

too lost you came near

as a cloud, hovered amongst

us and took form in our Blessed

Mother who gave birth

the child who

would show us the way.

In the branches of the tree

of life the birds have made

their nests and tiny eggs

are waiting to hatch.

The sound of the bees

can be heard again throughout

the land, restoring balance.

You were there since

before ever the earth was

delighting with your Beloved

who directs our steps.

I can hear your now

this Sabbath morning

dancing barefoot in the

orchards, flowers springing

up under your feet.

You are the sphere

of giving and receiving

the domain in which

we experience this human

life connected with the

life of the Divine.

Gateway open to us

that we might walk

with you

lighting the path…

Bride of the Beloved.

Reveal our hearts to us.

Create in us the knowledge

and experience of your

indwelling presence.

Point us to the bright and

morning star.

Supernal mother

fold me,

fold us,

into your

IMG_5889Dear Ones,

This month on the Red Madonna, we are painting and invoking the indwelling presence of the Divine through the Shekinah – what an amazing teaching she, and this painting have given me. It is SO SUPER wonderful how much I learn from my own process :). Each time I am amazed, that it WORKS. That it does it’s work in me. While I paint each step, I am in such constant present hopeful inquiry to receive the INFORMATION, to BE INFORMED by Her who is in the painting. This month, in the Tree of Life mystery school we are working in the Sephirah of MALKUTH, which is where the Shekinah dwells. I share her here with you. The over 20 step by step painting videos go up tonight, including an 18 minute visioning where we go to meet her and become a baby in her arms. The remothering work continues – so if you are not already a part of our Sisterhood and you would like to be, come on over:

From my desk I see the raven and the dove, to oak and the redwood, the sky and the great mountain. And I am so grateful I am home.

Below I have shared a writing from my mom, Caron, our Master Teacher for the Tree of Life – this is from her book, Rachel’s Bag and is for this month’s sephirah.
Signed in dots from my painting,

Shiloh Sophia

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things,

and the openings of my lips shall be right things.

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His way,

before His works of old.

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning,

Or ever the earth was, was I.

Then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him:

And I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him.

Rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth:

And my delights were with the sons of men.

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children:

For blessed are they that keep my ways.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

Blessed is the man that heareth me,

watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

For who so findeth me findeth life,

Proverbs 8

She is more precious than rubies:
and all things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her
Proverbs 3:15

The word in Genesis 1:1, translated in English as “God” is, in Hebrew Elohim. It is plural and inclusive of both the male and the female. Shekhinah is the Divine Feminine aspect of the Elohim. Dion Fortune in The Mystical Qabalah, reminds us that Elohim “is a feminine noun with a masculine plural termination,” and that, “A goddessless religion is half-way to atheism.”

This is an incontrovertible fact, in its linguistic aspect at any rate, and it is to be presumed that the various authors of the Bible knew what they meant, and did not use this peculiar and unique form without good reason. “And the spirit of the male and female conjoined principles moved upon the surface of the formless, and manifestation took place.”

Zohar says Shekhinah is the opening to the Divine and that one who enters must enter through this gate. Bahir says: She is “the brilliance taken from the primal light.” She is called the “Celestial Donna” or “Woman of Light.” Rav P.S. Berg states in The Essential Zohar: “…in our everyday lives we must experience God indirectly—through the emanations of His light, and through the Divine presence that Kabbalah identifies as Shekhinah.” He writes:

Shekhinah is derived from the Hebrew verb shakhan, meaning “to dwell” or “to dwell within.” Significantly, because gender is ascribed to verbs in Hebrew, the feminine nature of the Shekhinah is evident in the word itself. The Shekhinah is the female aspect of the Light. It is the energy of the manifestation, and as such it is the expression of the Light that is closest to the physical realm.

It is said that God contracted His presence in His Shekhinah and that She was especially concentrated at the Ark of the Covenant. She was the aspect of the Divine that went before the children of Israel by day in a pillar of cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire.

One of Her titles is “Queen of the Sabbath” and the righteous keepers of Sabbath traditionally prepare for Her coming by cooking and dressing and lighting candles and going out at the setting of the sun to welcome Her with praises and songs and music and dancing. I love to imagine Her coming to the fire of our Lord and dancing before Him even as She tells us that She did in the beginning. I love the opening of the song, Lekhah Dodi, to usher in the Sabbath:

Come, my beloved, to greet the bride! Let us welcome the presence of the Sabbath.

Shekhinah is identified with the final Heh of God’s name YHVH. With Heh as the archetype of universal life, She is the primordial ground and principle of life. She is the form that encompasses all forms, everything being prefigured in Her and taking form in Her.

On the Tree of Life she is said to be the daughter of the Supernal Mother Binah (Understanding). Her designation is with the Sephirah, Malkuth, where she becomes the Great Mother and is also known as Sovereignty and Kingdom as is Malkuth. She is associated with the function of speech because she is the culminating emanation of God speaking all things into existence. She represents the Oral Torah, which expands upon the Written Torah, represented by the Sephirah, Tiphareth or Beauty. This is relevant to Her being that part of God, and of us, making possible the communication that unites us in prayer. Tiphareth is the Sephirah designated by Christians to Jesus Christ who is also identified with Wisdom, and as being the one through whom all things were created.
